Vision is understanding as well as seeing.
It develops from birth with experience. Development occurs at both eyeball (focus, eye alignment, eye tracking and depth perception) and brain level (visual perception, visual thinking and visualization).
If appropriate development has not occurred for whatever reason, your vision will have deficits in how what is seen is processed and understood.

As well as seeing clearly and with comfort, this will include a whole range of life’s activities be it
  • Being able to understand and remember shapes and colours, important for learning to read
  • Being able to understand what is being demonstrated and then remembering it for later use
  • Being able to understand what you read
  • Being able to spell accurately
  • Being able to write neatly
  • Being able to understand the plot of a story
Vision therapy consists of activities that help develop you vision.

What is Vision Therapy?

Vision therapy comprises of games, procedures and exercises that are designed to make the child or adult aware of how they can change a particular aspect of their performance, and then with practice, make this new behavior automatic.

Sessions are scheduled in consultation with the Optometrist and time is spent before each visit in preparation for your visit. Vision therapy is delivered to you by our specially trained Therapist, Pat Reid. Pat is a qualified primary teacher with seven children of her own.

How often?
In addition to the half hour in office sessions home practice is necessary to gain speed, skill, stamina and aid transfer to general living.
Fifteen to thirty minutes per day of home activities is usually required and activities are changed regularly. They are demonstrated and discussed during office visits and a written description of the activities is provided (unless activities are computer based).
It cannot be stressed highly enough that home practice is essential!!
Normal daily schedules should preferably be re-arranged to allow for Vision Therapy.
An assessment and progress visit may be scheduled at the end of the therapy schedule.
